Less than 24 hours to go before the trip begins, almost all stuff packed and everything ready to go!

This is our planned route. Route has changed a bit, but not too much.

Final Route

All the possible checks done to the motorbike, no major issues found so everything ok on that end. Only thing which will need some maintenance work is probably the rear tire. It will not last for 12 000 kilometers, but should not be a big issue during the trip.

Will try to post pictures and maps on the way into this site if I only manage to find some Internet connection from the places we spend the nights.

Yesterday evening I found nice utility for Nokia Series 60 phones to track and record route while driving: Nokia Sports Tracker.

With this is should be possible to get our route down into mobile phone and exported into Google Earth -format to show the route on map.

Only issue is that I do not currently have compatible phone, but hopefully next week before we start the journey that one is fixed as well.

More information on this tool can be found in here: http://research.nokia.com/research/projects/SportsTracker/

While browsing through the Internet I found this page: http://www.bmw-motorrad.com/com/en/index.html.

It has an BMW Motorrad Dealer database which can be downloaded to BMW Navigator, but not to others.

Well, after digging into this for a while I managed to convert this file into tab delimited text file, which can be downloaded from here.

Have Fun.

Lots of thinking and planning behind, during this and next week I will do two rounds of trial packing to see what I can carry on my bike on our trip to Rota,

Can't wait to get On the Road!

Lot of people I have talked to on this have told that our goal to drive ~1000 kilometers per day and on the same time trying to void major highways is an impossible task, but I'm still optimistic on this and plan to try it. Also some parts of the planned route takes us to roads that we can not really keep the speed up, so we probably need to drive one or two nights through!

That should not really be that bad as long as we just get some sleep on the way as we have practiced this already during the past years while driving Iron Butt rides.

And yes - I did managed to get my flagpole mounted to my bike, will post some more pictures on that during...

Had not really tried this before, but decided to give it a try, 10 045 kilometers behind. Was not really fitting into my schedules to get the bike for some local BMW dealer for maintenance and so I decided to do it on my own.

And what a fun it was: 10 000 kilometers check. Biggest thing was to change the oil (which I have not done for any machinery in 10+ years...) and of course I had to go and get all the tools for the job. One by one as the work moved on.

First issue was to how would I get the oil drain plug removed. Did not have big enough tools... so to the shop. Price for the tool: 3.95€.

Then the next stop was how would I get the oil filter out? Of course no such tools existing on my toolbox... so to the shop again. Price for the tool: 2.95€.

But after getting these two small tools in place everything was going smoothly. Only issue I discovered was that changing oil filter is a messy job since the structure of the BMW K1200LT, next time I will have to get some more cover to protect...
