Kyseessähän on siis sovellus, jolla IOS9:n Safarissa näkyvät...

As 2015 summer is already over, I’m starting to think what to do on 2016.

I have visited many countries and places with my BMW and since this summer is 10th time I’m going somewhere with my bike I believe it is time to try something different.

In my garage I currently have BMW R1200GSA, KTM 500 EXC and KTM 690 SMC R and as a though I started thinking taking one of those KTM’s out.

KTM 500 EXC has a bit too short service interval, but others have done it so why not me? Going with this bike would certainly open up totally new roads compared to going with BMW, like this one:

KTM 690 SMC R would also be an option, but as that is more of a *street* bike that might be too _boring_ trip.

When looking at Hotel Price Index and it’s numbers from Finland I cannot stop wondering how these all can be so expensive? And all of these very much on same level?

Helsinki: 114€ Jyväskylä: 105€ Oulu: 106€ Turku: 110€ Vaasa: 110€ Maarianhamina: 134€ Rovaniemi: 107€ Lahti: 85€ During my travels across Europe I have always found cheaper options even in bigger cities. This year’s trip to Malta average price per night on hotels was 44€ and all of them included breakfast, some of them even for two especially on the way back when Max was with me.

In Finland you cannot really travel this cheap and lucky for me I’m not doing that! And not planning to do that either, not with these prices on the table.

Even going to Tallinn will drop the prices back to _normal_ level where one can easily find a place to sleep with 25€ and when paying 10€-15€ more breakfast is also included.

In Helsinki cheapest option today is 79,90€ per night...

I have now played with Windows 10 on my desktop for a week and I’m quite ready to move back to Windows 8.1 or even Windows 7.

From what I have experienced the performance of Windows 10 is not where it was on this machine with Windows 8.1. Seems like there is an issue with I/O or how it’s being handled, my mouse freezes too much when lots of applications are open and busy doing stuff in the background.

I also have lots of issues with plain Microsoft tools like Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus I’m using.

Microsoft Office tools like Excel have had feature on Windows 8.1 that when right clicking program in Task Bar it has shown pinned and recent items list. This list has pretty much gone on Windows 10. Or it works, but only...

I have come to a point where I have decided to get rid of my BMW K1200LT. It has served me well for the past 86tkm/9 years but I really have had too little driving with in the last 4 years - only 5tkm – so moving forward. Somebody will get a good bike out from this.

And of course, this time I want something totally different.

First I put my eyes on BMW F800R. Nice bike, a bit heavy (202kg) but main issue I had with this one was the fact that it’s suspension did not feel right. Seemed like the front and rear were from two different bikes.

Got Max up a bit earlier since we needed to be on the road right after 08:00 so that we get into ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki.

Breakfast was normal bread, coffee and yoghurt – lots of coffee to get day started.

Day started with excellent breakfast, will take through the day easily.

Another transit day ahead – and cold morning. It was raining in the morning when I woke up!

Had a quite good breakfast at Hotel Omega once I got Max up.

Started day with a proper (!) breakfast, finally some real coffee as well. I have so much missed coffee during the Italy the days, there they just don’t know how to make coffee. And got some real bread and not some sweet cakes for breakfast. What a relief.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/25/2015 9:33 PM
Had a very small sweet breakfast in the café, could have been better.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/24/2015 8:07 PM
Had an excellent breakfast (well, if you can call Italian breakfast excellent, but best in Italy so far) and started packing again.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/23/2015 8:17 PM
Morning start took a bit longer as my route planning was in troubles. I was trying to find a place from Rome, but failed to find any proper one so needed to expand the zone. And after driving in Naples, I thought that it might not be that nice to drive in the traffic there when temperature was still a lot over 30 degrees.

Italy is a tough place to find decent hotel with good (secure) parking for motorbike, but finally I managed to find a place from Spoleto which is a bit further from Rome but still along the route towards Finland.

After this woke up Max and headed to breakfast.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/22/2015 8:22 PM
Had quite a good breakfast in Hotel Alhambra, almost typical Italian.

By 09:30 we had packed our stuff and on the road again.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/21/2015 8:11 PM
Day started really early, wakeup at 02:30 after sleeping only couple of hours. Quickly some sandwich and water, shower, final packing and then to get Max up as well.

At 03:00 we were outside of For Rest Aparthotel packing the bike and 03:15 we started driving towards ferry port in Valletta. Ferry was scheduled to leave at 05:00 and we made it easily.

After bike was securely tied, we went to...
By Ilpo Juvander on 7/20/2015 9:42 PM
All good things must come to an end and so is this one. On last day we let Max sleep quite late as next night was going to be very short.

Got some swimming still for the day before starting packing.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/19/2015 9:30 PM
These days were full of everything, eating well, sleeping late, swimming, boat cruise to nearby island, bus trips to nearby towns, speedboat trip, lots of walking (on average 11km per day) etc. etc.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/13/2015 9:33 PM
This was my day off in Malta as my wife and son were to arrive later on in the evening.

After having some porridge for breakfast I decided to take a drive around the island. Did not take until first stop when I saw another motorbike approaching which turned out to be one Latvian guy living in Malta with his wife and a dog.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/12/2015 8:40 PM
Believe it or not, but as I went downstairs to get breakfast as agreed 08:30 in Hotel Siciania, it was already there waiting for me.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/11/2015 7:11 PM
Had an lazy morning due to the fact that check-in into my next hotel was going to be earliest at 17:00. So slow breakfast was in the program.

Little before 10:00 I was ready again and all packed towards Villa San Giovanni which is where the ferry leaves towards Sicily.

Got the ticket from the ticket office few hundred meters before the dock and then waited for ferry to arrive. Ferry goes every 40 minutes and crossing takes about 20 minutes.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/10/2015 8:52 PM
Had an later breakfast than usual as at Il Giardino Delle Sete the owners were either not waking up that early. But this was quite fine by me, I had still plenty of hours left for the day.

Again, nobody else at the breakfast with me. I seem to book the small places just for me!

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/9/2015 8:11 PM
Day started with a small breakfast at 08:00.

I was not in any hurry since this was may day off from riding. For the morning I had to go to the harbor to pick up a ferry ticket I had booked earlier to travel from Vlorë to Brindisi. I chose this line because it was running during daytime and was relatively short in time, only 4,5 hours travel time.

Next was to pack...
By Ilpo Juvander on 7/8/2015 9:37 PM
Had a pretty good breakfast at Hotel Evropa without any hurry.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/7/2015 8:38 PM
Day started with a small breakfast that the Hotel San’s receptionist created. Some bread, scrambled eggs with cheese, coffee and juice. Just enough to get my eyes open.

And again, nobody else at the breakfast, even the lights were not on.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/6/2015 7:40 PM
Needed to wait a bit longer for the breakfast, bread delivery was a bit late there. But eventually bread came and had something to eat and not just plain coffee that was served earlier.

While waiting for the breakfast, owner of this place came to talk to us and told that they are growing all salads and others in their greenhouse so everything they make is home made and fresh. And food was indeed quite good over there.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/5/2015 7:39 PM
Had a small breakfast, nothing fancy but again got me started. Lots of other people there as well.

After this I packed all the stuff and drove short 100m to the reception to pay for the room....

Got small breakfast from the hotel, nothing fancy but enough to get me started for the day.

During the morning next route had been drafted and theme – again – would be small and even smaller roads.

By 09:30 I was ready to leave after packing all the stuff. Bike was resting in direct sunlight when I got out, had to move that to a shade to pack the bike.

After getting out from the city I got into smaller roads and rest of the Croatian side was this type of roads:

Day started with a small breakfast gathering, there were two groups with bicycles having breakfast at the same. One group was from Germany and other was from Denmark.

After having breakfast quick packing and driving started again.

Shortly after I had left I noticed that route on my navigator was not exactly the one I had planned. It was trying to take me through highways which I try to void, but after manually navigating to smaller roads again I managed to pass those big ones.

Navigator is still a big new to me and it somehow looks like it is still trying to route me through for example toll roads which I have set not to go there. Need to investigate this a bit further on better time.

These small roads took me through lots of villages, forests and other country side, really excellent route again.

Managed to take one break to drink after driving 200 km. Water consumption is getting higher and higher, temperature was now around 34 degrees and I was sweating a lot. It will take few more days to get used to this type of weather.

By Ilpo Juvander on 7/2/2015 9:51 PM
Breakfast at Hotel Saol started only at 08:00 so went there sharply on time to get something to eat. Nobody else was yet there.

By 09:30 I had checked out from the hotel and started driving...

Had an lazy morning, woke up early but had breakfast only after 07:00 and then had even lazier startup for the day.

By 09:00 I had packed everything and was On The Road Again.

Getting out from Warsaw...
By Ilpo Juvander on 6/30/2015 8:03 PM
I had agreed yesterday with the receptionist that I would like to have breakfast 07:00 in the morning and once I had packed all my stuff went to see if it was there or not and everything was ready.

By Ilpo Juvander on 6/29/2015 9:38 PM
Time to start this years summer trip. Wakeup time was 05:00 in the morning and as I has pretty much everything packed I was not in any hurry this time – or so I though.

Just as I was about to leave and put my luggage into my motorbike, I could not find the key for it! Then I remembered that last night I was putting some stuff to the bike and I had probably left the key into my trousers pocket. And Anne just turned on the washing machine with my trousers in there. But after 10 minutes waiting to get all the water out and door opened, key was found and this time it was clean as well.

So after this incident, bike finally packed and ready to go.
